7 Hurricane Life Hacks
7 OF THE BEST TIPS AND TRICKS TO USE DURING A HURRICANE.
by Stephen Bator
Simply put, hurricanes suck. While we cannot control the nature or duration of these natural disasters, we can take the necessary steps in preparing for them. First things first, SAFETY! If you are told to evacuate, EVACUATE. If you absolutely cannot and are staying in to survive the storm here are a few good “hurricane hacks” that could save you a lot of trouble.
1. FILL YOUR BATHTUB WITH WATER.
While everyone frantically waits in line at the department store to buy
bottled water, fill your bathtub a day before the storm. The average
bathtub will hold 80 gallons of water(302 Liters). Guys, if it really hits the
fan, this will last you much longer than the bottled water you purchase
without the long lines and mania.
2. USE YOUR WASHING MACHINE AS A COOLER.
Fill your washing machine with ice and use it as a cooler. Not only will this
help keep your drinks cold, but it will extend the shelf life of your frozen
food as well.
3. USE YOUR TOILET WITHOUT POWER OR WATER
You do not need power or running water to flush your toilet. Simply pour a
gallon of water in and it will flush.
4. MAKE FIRE STARTER BALLS WITH LINT AND PETROLEUM JELLY
Make fire starter balls out of vaseline and cotton balls. This is an easy way
to start and maintain a fire when you need it most.
5. STORE MATCHES IN A MASON JAR WITH A STRIKEABLE LID
Storing matches in a mason jar with a strikeable lid will give you an easy
way to light those handy “fire starter” balls.
6. BUY WAX FIRE LOGS
Now that you have your hand matches and fire starter balls, you can
easily start a wax fire log cooking area that will last for hours per log. If
you don’t have a grill, you can break the wax logs into pieces and use a
large such pan to hold the fire and hover a frying pan with the food.
7. DON’T FORGET TO TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE GUYS!
With all of the chaos, PLEASE don’t forget about your pets. Afterall, they
are your best friends! Take a few minutes and portion out enough food
with freezer bags.
GOOD LUCK! WE HOPE YOU FIND THESE TIPS AND TRICKS USEFUL.
